In Her Hands
by Suzann Brucato

I hold my grandmother’s hand as we talk

about her life

she telling me a story about her family

in another country

I hold my mother’s hand as we walk

through the life

she telling me a story about her heritage

in another country

I hold my daughter’s hand as we do

from time to time

me telling her a story about our life

in this home and theirs

I hold this pen in my hand to write

these words

telling you about a life that continues

to hold us

in her hands

Suzann Brucato is a parent, wife, daughter, godmother, and business owner in Monmouth County, NJ.  While she enjoys writing poetry, she does not consider herself a poet, but rather an interpreter using words, photography, and painting to translate the world around her and share it with others.  She particularly enjoys working with individuals in the autistic community, helping them participate and communicate in their own unique way.
