where breath is background
and we ignore details of oxygen’s ways.
Those automatic days
when a walk to the corner becomes praise
as the child hands us jewels she’s found.
Those automatic days

Carol Dorf's poems have been published in "Runes," "Five Fingers Review," "New Verse News," "The NeoVictorian," "Caprice," "Poetica," "Coracle," and elsewhere. She's taught in a variety of venues including as a California Poet in the Schools, at Lawrence Hall of Science, and at a large urban high school. She is a cancer survivor and found the Triolet form and other gifts during her recovery. Dorf lives in Berkeley, California with her husband, her daughter and two calico kittens.
