Keeping It Real

by Dionna Sanchez

The Essence of a Lady

Fast paced, chaotic, trendy, and ever-changing...that’s what society is like today. It’s no wonder we turn to magazines, television, and books to find out what we’re supposed to look like, wear, BE. It’s like somewhere along the line, we forgot to be ourselves because we feared that might be unacceptable.

I think being a lady is important. But what does that mean? I think it encompasses more of who you are than what you wear or what social circles you are in. We need to go back to our roots and remember what it means to be a lady.

  1. A Lady Has Class...

A classy lady is of high quality. This doesn’t necessarily mean she is wealthy but infers that she takes good care of herself, her home, and those she holds dear. She is not prissy but speaks well and tries her best. She has charisma, is loving, and endears people to her by her rare gifts of giving instead of asking. It’s a matter of how she deals with what life has dealt her, and how she carries herself.

  2. A Lady Has Confidence...

Think about all the women you admire – then think about why. Chances are they exhibit confidence in who they are, and it makes them more appealing to those around them. They embrace the things in life that fulfill them.

  3. A Lady Exhibits Integrity...

The dictionary describes integrity as “an adherence to a code of values”. We’re talking morals here! I don’t think you can be a complete person unless there are people and values you hold dear to your heart. It is those that make us strive and propel us forward.

So let’s go back to these basic characteristics. Celebrate, embrace, and enjoy all the factors that make us ladies.
