Keeping It Real by Dionna Sanchez Down the drain Do you feel like you aren't who you were meant to be? Women today, are tired and drained. Our lives have become too full of routine and demands and we spend too much of our time trying to keep it all together. The role of so many women has become one of efficiency instead of what a woman's heart yearns for... beauty and adventure! It's tough to fight that culture of "busyness." It's tough to not live a life that makes us feel safe all of the time. But when you live within those parameters, you get bogged down by all of the "to do's," "have to's," and "right now's." There will always be something that needs to be done. It is endless. You will never arrive at that point when you feel like there are no more demands or expectations on you. Because those will always exist. So, what's a woman to do? Stop striving so hard. Stop striving to be everything to everyone around you. It's impossible. Stop trying to be so efficient at it all. It's great to be organized, reliable, and trustworthy. But those objectives should be natural and not something that you have to bend over backwards to accomplish each and every day. If you've had a really tough week with extra doctors’ appointments, last minute homework assignments, and other things thrown in, and you are unable to get the house completely cleaned up for those guests you are expecting over – let it go! So what?? You will be more delightful to them because of the fact that you can relax and laugh about the situation than you would be if you were apologizing the whole night, or regretting the last hour before they arrived because you were irritable with the rest of the family. You can be that charming, beautiful, sweet woman you dream of being. You just need to remember to keep things in perspective and not let the drudgery of life outweigh the adventurous part of life that keeps your heart alive. It will take practice to stop internally telling yourself all of the messages of perfection that you think you need to live up to. But in time, you will realize how harmful those thought patterns were. And you will find yourself relax just a bit more and laugh just a touch more often. That's when your true heart and self will start to escape.
