Grandma's heirloom
by Monica Lynn Moraca

Quietly I cuddled my tiny cherub,
soft brown curls neatly tucked under
her satin bonnet,
she stretches her limbs and nestles
into the corner of my heart.
Red velvet caresses her supple skin
as she fondles the bridges of my support.
Oh my little one,
how good it is to be young.
Her warmth seeps into my coils as
she hums her favorite lullaby
drooling, unknowingly unto
my cushioned lap
but beware my sweet cherub,
I am armless and how
shall I break you?

Monica Lynn Moraca was awarded third place for her poem Eyes of an Angel in the 2005 fictional/poetry winter contest sponsored by Beginnings Publishing Inc. and received honorable mention in the “Your Assignment” contest sponsored by Writer’s Digest in 2004. She is the proud mother of two teenagers, a devoted wife, and works full time as a payroll manager in a media company. She enjoys writing whenever her hectic schedule allows her – a passion she hopes to evolve full time.
